Hyderabad: The "Hamara Shauchalay: Hamara Samman" campaign was concluded in Telangana on Tuesday in observance of World Toilet Day 2024.

The campaign was launched on November 19 and concluded on December 10, coinciding with Human Rights Day to emphasise the fundamental right to sanitation. Minister for Panchayati Raj Danasari Anasuya, popularly known as Seethakka, launched the "Hamara Shauchalay: Hamara Samman" campaign with a Bhoomi Puja and foundation laying ceremony for a Community Sanitary Complex (CSC) in Mulugu.

All 32 rural districts across Telangana actively participated in the campaign through a series of impactful events.

As part of the campaign, the district water and sanitation mission meetings were conducted across all districts on November 19, focusing on identifying and addressing toilet gaps at the household level and in public spaces such as schools, healthcare centers, and Anganwadi centers.

Similarly, the campaign programmes, including rallies, workshops and community meetings, were organised to raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and proper toilet usage.

Similarly, a total of 8,732 sanction letters for Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs) were distributed to eligible beneficiaries across the State. Construction and renovation of toilets were undertaken to ensure adequate sanitation facilities for all.

In addition to this, special attention was paid to the functionality and aesthetic upliftment of CSCs. Repairs and restoration were carried out to enhance their usability and appeal. Additionally, 107 new sanctions for CSCs were issued and toilets gaps were identified in schools, healthcare centers, and Anganwadi centers.

Competitions for the best IHHL and CSC were held with winners honoured to encourage community participation and pride in maintaining clean sanitation facilities. The winners of IHHLs and CSCs are as detailed below: IHHLs (1645 at the GP level, 301 at the Mandal level, and 32 at the District level), and CSCs (99 at the Mandal level and 15 at the District level).

Recognising sanitation workers, the dignity camps were organised to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of sanitation workers and facilitate their enrollment in relevant schemes. Moreover, the targeted social media campaign using platforms like Twitter (X) and Facebook, with hashtags #ToiletsForDignity and #MyToiletMyPride, was launched to raise awareness and promote the campaign's objectives.
